Montserrat train tour from Barcelona

Montserrat train tour from Barcelona
Take a day off and enjoy fresh air, mountain scenery, and a very special spiritual place!
Reach the magical mountain of Montserrat by train and cremallera - an exciting way to discover the monastery of Montserrat and its best preserved secret, the Black Madonna statue!
The journey to Montserrat by train is a unique experience by itself. The group will depart from Plaça Espanya train station. At Monistrol Villa Station you will change trains and take the Montserrat Rack Railway, a panoramic train which will take you to the heart of the mountain of Montserrat. The whole journey is about 1 hour and 40 minutes. Meanwhile you can enjoy great sceneries and spectacular views of the surroundings.
Once you go out you will be stunned by the panoramic view of this Benedictine Monastery, the most important landmark here, hidden between the extraordinary rock formations and peaks of the mountain. Walk to the Basilica of Montserrat and visit the place of the world-known statue of the Black Virgin, dated from 12th century. Considered miraculous, the image is the reason why the monastery has survived through the many centuries since it was built. When you get to the main doorway leading to Mary’s statue, you should take into account that there is always a queue. You will have the privilege of hearing the Escolania Choir, Europe’s oldest boy’s choir, singing everyday at 1pm. Have free time for lunch and shopping or just explore the open mountain woods trails around the site. Discover one of the best viewpoints, St Miquel’s Cross, where Montserrat is seen at its best glamour, together with the Pyrenees at the distant, the beautiful delta of LLobregat river and if the weather is clear, you can even spot Barcelona with its Mediterranean coast. You will take the rack railway at the early afternoon to return to Barcelona and arrive at Plaça Espanya train station.
